12 new RTGs from HHMC have arrived at Hamad for the first phase of its CT2 terminal.

The cranes were manufactured by China’s Qingdao Haixi Heavy-duty Machinery Co., Ltd. (HHMC) and feature a lifting capacity of 41t, span 6+1 container rows wide and stack containers one-over-five high.

The delivery was witnessed by His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Communications for Qatar.

CT2 is being developed in four phases. The first two phases are planned to be fully operational before the end of 2022, and will take Hamad Port’s capacity to 3M TEU per annum. They will add another 624m of quay and 380,000 square meters in total area to the port when completed. Phases 3 and 4 will be developed according to market demand.

His Excellency said CT2 will boost Hamad’s ranking as the “most updated and most efficient gateway for shipping containers and cargo in the Gulf region and surrounding region in general." He stressed that the terminal is on schedule, and “is in full gear with no delay or slowdown despite the repercussions associated with the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, which affected several economies around the world directly and indirectly,…”

Hamad Port added that the terminal will also be equipped with “Terminal Tractor APM 75T HE for horizontal container transportation, empty container handlers (ECH) and trailers”. Gaussin had already announced an order for 22 of its APM 75 HE terminal tractors for CT2.
